I hit soooo much bad luck in the last 2 weeks and now I’m starting to come back on the track.  More tournaments I play, more late I finish it… but didn’t make the money since a while now.  I hope I’ll finish  past the bubble before my trip to Vegas!

Cash games and tournies are “similar, but very different” (Cheech Marin, Cheech & Chong Next movie).  It’s similar beceause it’s the same game, but it’s a different way to play it.  You can’t always “wait for your hand”.  Blinds grows and you need to use of strategy to grow your stack.

Maybe I’ll be lucky and get the “beginners luck” for my first official WSOP tourny.  I’ll not count on it, but who knows…??

I don’t have a clue what happen.  Is it because I know that I’m going to Vegas and want too much to win or play well?  I know the next days will be “preparation mode” and I’ll have to play a lot be fore I can be sure I will defend my 4 500 chips properly.  Is this what disturbing me at a point that I always make a bad move too early in the game.

I watched Daniel Negreanu’s Weekly Rant tonight and I heard something I do not understand really : how can I play, short stack, with 15 BB?

In his video, KidPoker is talking about still playing as usual (some calls or min raises) when you only have 15BB. and do not shove all your chips in the betting area.  All I learned about that stack situation was “If you have to raise and it costs you the third or more of your stack, go all in to grow the odds 2:1 to win the hand.

I’m not a slow player, everytime I got cracked, more often on the flop.

Let’s have a good night of sleep, dreaming about it and see what will happen tomorrow night!  No question to take a break, I just got out from a 2 weeks break!

I subscribed to event number 2, starting on may 28th (see this article).  It’s not my first time in Vegas, but it will be for a specific reason and not for holidays.

Do I really think I can win?  Sure, like any poker player will think!  But this is not my first goal.  Some times, there’s a point where you need a new challenge to step into an higher level and perform better in a field of activity.  I’m at this point with poker.  Like I said in my bio : I’m not a pro and I don’t have any intension to become one soon, but I feel I’m stagnating and I hate that.

It’s very hard to find good players around here to/and play often.  The unwritten rule “Higher buy-in, better players” it’s not so true, except if it starts at 1K$.  Also, these kind of events do not take place often and I’m not sure I’m ready to invest 1K$ in a local tournament.  At least, I wasn’t until I won enough in a cash game, one night, to cover the fees for a trip to WSOP!  So… why not there?  New players, new ambiance, new begining!!!  The goal will be the same for everyone : at least, cover the fees!

I have 25 days left, with 3 different places, to be ready for the WSOP 2K12.  One of the places is the 2K10 WSOP Main Event Champion, Jonathan Duhamel, poker home : The Stardust Poker Mansion, a new poker room in Kahnawake, Quebec.  I’m not sure I’ll see him a lot until then.  He’s on the road, playing (golf), and getting ready, as well, for the 2K12 WSOP!

Nervous?  Not at all (yet!).  Until then : let the party continue!!

I have Jh6h and I’m BB.  D/SB min-raise and I call.

• Flop : Qc6c6s

I check, D/SB pushes All in, I call. D/SB is drawing dead, but don’t know yet!

• Turn : 6d

… D/SB is dead…

• River : who cares at this point? :P

Comment I heard : “What a bad beat!”

Not really.  Q2 was beated since the flop.  The only ime it took over the hand it’s preflop, when he raised.  At the flop it was 2 pairs vs a set and the hand terminated at the turn with the case 6 to give me the quads beating a full house.  Whatever the stats show, the chances to win the hand was 50-50 preflop.

It was a fun afternoon and I growed my bankroll of 4 times my initial investment! Cool!  Better : bad bets are working both ways!  Some times they make you loose, some other times, you win! :)

What a hand it was!  I’ m the one with pocket 10, heads-up with the BB after everyone folded and a 3x blinds raise.

I check, BB c-bet, I call.

• Turn : As

I bet, BB raise, I instantly re-raise All in (try to bluff the color), instant call and full house for both of us.. I’m dead!  The only card who can save me was in the hands of my opponent… What are the odds?? Very high! BUT…. That’s poker folks!

Tournaments that I usually play around here are between 60$ and 300$ buy-in.  Sometimes, when the it’s under 100$, deals are offered by players left – most of the time by the low stacks – deals like add another 15-20 dollars of ‘buy-in fees’ and pay the bubble.  It covers the fees for his buy-in.. sometimes, 10$ of gain.

I don’t know for you, but I think that “The buy-in fee is the buy-in fee, the bubble is the bubble, they both exist for a reason and it should stay like that.”.  How many times I was the bubble and I didn’t get anything of a 4-5 hours tournament.  It was frustrating, but I respected that and I’m still playing.

What happen if soemone have the guts to say “no” : People looks at you like you’re a crazy man and some can be very arrogant.  I don’t know if we should justify the refusal or just say no and stay quiet.

A thing I don’t like in turbo tournaments is that the breaks are also turbo. – P@ge

Finally, I’m out 8th, around 2 hours later (just before the next break).  I’m in the money, telling myself “that break from the news feeds is really what I need to continue if I want to keep my mind clear and happy like that!”, and, back in my car, surfing on my little cloud, I call back my mom.

“Your godmother had an heart attack this morning.  She’s at the hospital, in a coma.  She’s not dead, but not so strong. More news to come…”

I couldn’t believe it. My godmother is a sister, probably his most devoted and loyal servant.  She’s a person who gave more then 50 years of her life to him, following his path like she was told to do.  She started teaching 3rd grade at primary school and stopped only 25 years later to retire.  She always been in common houses, living with other sisters, never had a boyfriend, never got married, …  I’m not sure, but I think she also never had sex.  What a gift for Easter monday.

So yes, I’m back on the track, continuing that break from the news feeds.  It will be slower then I tought… but I’m back!  A hit in the face like that will disturb me a little bit for sure, but I’m confident I’ll be able to focus when the time comes.
